KBZ Bank in Myanmar, the winner of our Digital Payments award, achieved impressive results by onboarding over 5 million KYC-verified customers in just over a year since launching its KBZPay wallet. The wallet’s success can be attributed to a combination of innovative technology and a human-led approach. KBZPay focused from the outset on developing a new banking experience and way of thinking for managing money, paying for goods, storing cash, and a number of innovative features, for underbanked customers. To reach wider townships and communities, KBZ Bank turned its 18,000 employees into an on-the-ground force for financial inclusion and brought banking beyond the branch.
